WHAT ARE GOOGLE EDUCATOR GROUPS?
Google Educator Groups (GEGs) connect passionate educators to discuss the benefits of technology to schools, classrooms, and communities across the world - both online and at locally run events offline. These groups provide a forum for educators to collaborate, share, and support each other.
In 2014, Google created Google Educators Group as a way to build a community of educators who learn, share, inspire and empower each other to meet the needs of their students through technology solutions, both in the classroom and beyond. Of the 275 GEGs worldwide, 31 are in the Philippines and one of those is GEG Cagayan de Oro.
Google Educators Group - Cagayan de Oro (GEG CDO), spearheaded by the group's Community Leader, Roxanne H. Fuentes, was inaugurated on July 19, 2014 at Liceo de Cagayan University - AVR 1. An offline/ face-to-face GAFE (Google Apps for Education) Workshop was conducted by the Google's Education Outreach Program Manager for Asia Pacific then, Mr. Philip Tanpoco Jr. as the highlight of the inauguration. It was attended by 30 teachers coming from both private and public schools in the city.
At that time, there were only 3 people who were part of the core group, namely, Roxanne Fuentes, Owen Jaen, and Jill Anne Yngojo. After the inaugural workshop, the community grew adding more members to the core group and reaching out more teachers through trainings/workshops and special events.
